Eco-Fair June 22, 2026 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Barrie Public Library - Downtown, 60 Worsley St, Barrie, ON L4M 1L6, Canada Our Second Annual Eco-Fair is coming up!Junaid Shahzad Khan is a Muslim-Canadian from the Indus Valley, from the region that is now Pakistan. Junaid has worked as an ecologist for over 12 years, on issues of invasive species, plastic pollution, habitat revitalization, insect conservation, and bird education. Over the past four years, Junaid has committed himself to the understanding of ecologies within Indigenous cultures. Join Junaid Shahzad Khan for a talk about our native pollinator species, their lifecycles, identification features, and the best ways we can support them within urban environments. You can expect to learn about specialized relationships between native plants and native pollinators, as well as gardening tips for your own pollinator habitat enhancement! --- Dr. Kathleen Patnode is an ecologist who spent over 30 years working on preventing and reducing pollution's effects on aquatic and terrestrial wildlife. She has designed habitat for insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and the native plants that support them on over 1000 acres from backyards to mountain ridges. She continues to create and improve habitat on her own properties and enjoys sharing her methods with others. Moths are the not-so-flashy, pollinator night shift. Learn about their huge diversity, their fascinating lives, and their habitat needs. You will understand why they are so much more effective than butterflies at pollinating and critical to sustaining wildlife. --- We will also have some of our local environmental groups tabling: Simcoe County Greenbelt CoalitionRescue Lake Simcoe CoalitionNature BarrieLiving Green BarrieXerces SocietyCity of Barrie See more details • |
